2006.......a year of excitement, growth and extreme dependency on our gracious and loving God as He brings us closer to Him and to one another. We are all different in many ways with only 2 things in common...........we are all self-confessed sinners and are desperately in need of a Saviour............and we have found that Saviour in our Lord and Master Jesus Christ who died on the Cross for our sins, rose again on the third day, conquering death and will one day return again as Judge.Caulfield-Elwood PC invites you to join us in this journey together (woodpecker and all!!!!) heavenward.
"Let us hold on firmly to the hope we profess, because we can trust God to keep His promise. Let us be concerned for one another, to help one another to show love and to do good. Let us not give up the habit of meeting together, as some are doing. Instead, let us encourage one another al the more, since you see that the Day of the Lord is coming nearer."
Hebrews 10:23-25

Please explain the concept of "self-confessed sinners" a little more. Why is this important? Or is it? Can we just "accept" that we're sinners and move on to the next step of accepting Jesus as our Lord & saviour?
Dear Bombilla,
"Self-Confessed Sinner" basically means that we acknowledge that we have sinned personally against God. Unless we admit that we have sinned against a holy and righteous God, there will never be a need for a saviour. Unless you admit that you are sick, you won't want to take any medication. Is it important....yes, very! Accepting that we are sinners is very important. But it doesn't stop there. We move on but in a different direction now....God's direction. This is called repentance. It means that we accept that we are sinners and realised that what we have done was wrong in God's sight. Hence, we do not want to do it anymore, with His help. It is like turning over a new leaf. Accepting that we are sinners without a genuine desire to change is not good enough. We need a Saviour to save us from our sins for we could never do it ourselves. Now we call Jesus our Lord...meaning that we will follow Him and not follow our old way of living. That is repentance. Many only want to receive Him as Saviour thinking that is enough to get them to heaven and they continue to sin. Accepting that we are sinners is not enough if we don't repent. We must receive Him as Saviour AND Lord of our lives.
Bombilla, if you are in Melbourne, do come and visit us at Caulfield PC and we can discuss this further over a cup of coffee.
Greetings in Christ,

Thankyou Sam, that was very helpful and informative and it makes me want to think about my path to God a little more. Also thankyou for the invitation, however I will have to decline your offer at this time. However you will see me visiting this site from time to time... asking simple questions. Once again, Thankyou.
You're welcomed, Bombilla.
