Feeling Important

Letting others know how important we are to our workplace, community or the rest world can be a hindrance to our Christian growth. JESUS instead taught us to be humble and whoever wants to become great must become a servant (Matthew 20:26). Elisha didn't seem to have noticed Naaman's horses and chariots that stopped at the door of his house. Instead, he sent his messenger to instruct Naaman to wash in the River Jordan seven times for him to be healed (2 Kings 5:9-10). This angered Naaman because he wanted to be noticed as an important person and wasn't satisfied with just receiving orders from a lowly messenger telling him to dip in a "murky" water. His servant finally made him realize how full of importance he had been and after washing himself seven times in the river, his flesh was restored (2 Kings 5:11-14).

But Naaman went away angry and said, "I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of the LORD his God, wave his hand over the spot and cure me of my leprosy. (2 Kings 5:11 NIV)
